Splottments (2011)
Location: Splott, Cardiff, South Wales Budget: £n/a Gross Area: 25,000sqm In August 2011, russ and henshaw gained a second consecutive success for the ‘Remnants’ Design Competition run by the Design Circle Wales and Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW). The brief was to identify and develop a space within the city that had the potential to provide an opportunity for delight. The proposal identified a post-industrial railway siding with disused railway carriages that would be opened up to the local community for cultivation, enterprise and intergenerational exchange. The design proposal has gained international recognition and was awarded a special mention in the ‘Landscape Urbanism’ category of UV2012 by d3 in New York. |
