Vertical Gardens + Elevated Allotments (2010)
Location: Ebbw Vale, South Wales Budget: £100,000 Gross Area: 1,100sqm In June 2009, russ and henshaw won a landscape architecture competition to transform a derelict industrial concrete basement on the site of the former Corus steelworks in Ebbw Vale into a ‘Vertical Garden’ for local schools to cultivate. Following the competition success, russ + henshaw were retained as design consultants for the delivery of the project on a tight 8 month programme by preparing detail design intent drawings and attending site meetings. The completed project was exhibited in the National Eisteddfod of Wales, shortlisted within the 2010 Best of Welsh Design Awards as part of the annual Cardiff Design Festival, and also published in The Architects Journal as part of the ‘AJ Specifications’ series. |
